As you point out, the investor should be realistic about growth expectations.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the specific case of telecoms, I think an investor needs to distinguish between the companies strictly in the landline biz, and those in wireless.  AT&amp;amp;T and Verizon are huge in the US wireless market, even if their POTS wired services are dying.  Plus, instead of losing landline revenue, they can gain, if they are able to convert basic phone subscribers into U-Verse / FiOS subscribers.
